Last year my wife Linda and me including Col. Paul Elverding and SgtMaj Dennis Oranje had the experience and privilege of walking the “bridge”. My father was a decorated Dutch soldier and I served in the US Marines in 1966-72. It was moving to say the least. I thank the organization who keeps the memory of that period of time, WW II, a constant awareness. I also thank the Col. and SgtMaj. for their efforts in presenting my father Teake Porte with his medal at age 100. It will remembered and appreciated by my family forever. Born in Amsterdam, we immigrated to America on February 11, 1957. Proud to be here and equally proud of my Dutch heritage. Semper Fi.

  1. Thank you for the service to our country and from you and your father to the Netherlands, Mr. Porte.

    I’m walking the bridge today.
